“The Legacy of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts: Faculty Recollections' was initiated as an independent study project prior to the unexpected announcement of the changes the Academy is now experiencing. That auspicious coincidence underscores the video and its significance, for now and for posterity. Many heartfelt thanks to the interviewed faculty for their time and for their thoughtful recollections now shared with the PAFA community. Special thanks to Nina Byerly and Raffi Zarzatian for their enthusiasm, diligence, and commitment to this project, and to the general course expectations.”

GARDENS: from real to imagined

On view from November 3rd - November 17th, 2023 at Land Collective in Philadelphia, PA, 'Gardens: from Real to Imagined’ is a collection of twelve hand-painted garden maps, each offering a unique blend of reality and imagination. Inspired by a diverse array of sources, including cartography, landscape painting, manuscripts, cosmological diagrams, and religious texts, the gardens entwine design with culture and spirituality. They serve as representations of the intricate relationship between humanity, belief systems, and the landscape in which they flourish.

From gardens designed for meditative contemplation to those intended for exploration, ritual, or folly, this exhibition is a testament to the eternal connection between humans and the land they inhabit.

GALLERY Land Collective is a conduit for the representation of thoughtful explorations focused on landscape. They present the work of landscape architects and designers, ecologists, sociologists, anthropologists, artists, and others whose work informs the breadth of the discipline. It is a collective consciousness that raises landscape to the highest ideals.
